Cape Fear Botanical Garden
Cape Fear Botanical Garden is a 80 acre living laboratory with native and ornamental plants. We conduct both field trips at the Garden and classroom programs where our instructors visit the schools. All our workshops are tied to NC Standard Course of Study grade level learning objectives. Programs integrate science and art for a hands-on interdisciplinary experience.
Field Trip Workshop:Intro to Nature Journaling
Introduce students to the art of nature journaling, practice careful observation skills, and create art inspired by the Garden. Each student begins a nature journal which they can take home. This class can also be conducted as a classroom program at the school.
Duration: 60 minutes
Grade Level: 3rd-High School
Maximum Number of Students: 100 per day
Maximum Number of Performances: Depends on schedule 4-5 usually

Field Trip Workshop:Nature Object Art
Explore the elements of art in the work of famous artist Andy Goldsworthy. Then create your own art using nature objects such as leaves, stones, feathers, and seeds.
Duration: 60 minutes
Grade Level: K-High School
Maximum Number of Students: 100 per day
Maximum Number of Performances: Depends on schedule 4-5 usually

Field Trip Workshop:Botanical Spray Art
Explore the artistic use of negative space and color theory. Then collect and use natural materials from the Garden to create watercolor spray art.
Duration: 60 minutes

Workshop:Clay Animal Creations
Create imaginary animals using basic clay working techniques and air dry clay. Each clay sculpture will feature an animal adapted to a specific habitat connecting ecological knowledge with artistic creation. This class can also be conducted as a classroom program at the school.
