Arts Council of Fayetteville | Cumberland County Displays the Work of Southeastern Artist in Residence

The Whimsical Naturalist: NC Flora and Fauna by Katie Crawford

Fayetteville, N.C. –  The Arts Council of Fayetteville | Cumberland County is excited to open its latest exhibit, The Whimsical Naturalist: NC Flora and Fauna  by Katie Crawford. This exhibit marks the end of Crawford’s six-month stint as the Arts Council’s first Southeastern Artist in Residence. The works displayed are a collection of large scale watercolor pieces created during Crawford’s residency.

A self-taught artist, Katie uses watercolor to create endearing worlds filled with plants and animals that are native to North Carolina. “I started the project with native amphibians and reptiles,” expressed Crawford. “For some reason I’ve always gravitated towards those. I grew up with a lot of them in my environment and I would play with frogs and toads as a kid.”

Originally from Virginia, Katie received her B.S. in Anthropology from James Madison University before taking the dive into professional artistry. Crawford has displayed her work across the United States at numerous galleries and fine arts festivals, and has published a children's book that she wrote and illustrated.

The Arts Council invites the public to attend the opening reception for The Whimsical Naturalist on December 6th from 6-8pm. The exhibit will be on display in the Arts Council’s gallery until January 10th. The exhibit framing is sponsored in part by O'Grady Law, PLLC.
