Artists in Schools Grants
The Arts Council partners with the Cumberland County and Fort Bragg Schools and a variety of individual artists, artist companies and local arts agencies to build collaborations between schools and cultural resources. The Arts Council's Arts In Education program reaches over 53,000 students and is composed of the Artists In Schools program.
The Artists in Schools program offers subsidies to public and private schools in Cumberland County and Fort Bragg for artists residencies, assembly performances and workshops. Local, regional, and national artists and companies of all disciplines submit applications. A local panel of teachers and administrators screen artist applicants for strong educational material, artistic value and economic feasibility. Comprehensive hands-on and multi-disciplinary activities/workshops/performances with links to educational goals and standards are emphasized.
Selected artists are published in a directory made available to educators in public and private school in the Cumberland County and Fort Bragg area. The directory is also published on the Arts Council's website. School representatives apply for a subsidy for one or more programs. A second panel is convened to award funding. The Arts Council facilitates, as necessary, the scheduling and payment of artists throughout the school year. In 2011-2012, more than 80 schools participated in the program.
The 2012-2013 Artists in School Directory is now available online. (Click here to see the directory. Please be patient while this large file opens.) Hard copies were delivered to all area schools in August 2012. A special thank-you to CarMax for sponsoring this year's directory!
